An L Type Bolt is also called angle bolt. It features an integrated L shape with a straight shank and a bent section. Most L Type Bolt are bent at 90 degrees, and other angles are available on request. The shank can be fully threaded, partially threaded or plain. Thanks to its bent design, the L Type Bolt works as a stop, hook or support without extra parts. Some reinforced L Type Bolt have thicker heads and wider bodies to hold heavier loads.
Manufacturing L Type Bolt has several tricky points. During bending, the bend area of L Type Bolt may crack, peel or spring back, so it’s hard to keep the exact angle. The shank is easy to twist after bending, which affects verticality and parallelism. Any deformation will cause thread errors. For large and thick L Type Bolt, bending requires heavy-duty and high-precision machines and molds, which raises the production difficulty a lot.
We have many key points to check when producing L Type Bolt. First, keep the bending angle consistent for every L Type Bolt in one batch. Second, inspect the bend part carefully to remove cracks and burrs. Third, make sure no twist on the shank and the verticality meets standards. Fourth, test threads strictly with go/no-go gauges. Fifth, control overall dimensions uniformly. Also, inspect and maintain bending molds regularly to avoid mass defects of L Type Bolt.
The L Type Bolt is widely used for positioning, hooking, side tightening and stopping parts. You can see L Type Bolt on machine frames, cabinets, hardware, storage racks, farm equipment, scaffolding and pipe supports. It works perfectly in narrow spaces where standard straight bolts cannot be installed. The L Type Bolt is also a good choice for temporary hanging and anti-shift fixing. We use different heat treatments for L Type Bolt according to load conditions. For light-load static L Type Bolt, normalizing is used to keep good toughness. For medium-load L Type Bolt under slight vibration, quenching and tempering are applied to reach Grade 8.8 or 10.9 strength. For heavy-duty L Type Bolt, overall heat treatment is done to improve fatigue resistance at the bend. We test hardness for each batch to prevent breakage of L Type Bolt.
Surface treatment for L Type Bolt is mainly for rust and corrosion protection. For dry indoor use, electro-galvanizing (blue-white or color zinc) is the most common choice for L Type Bolt. For outdoor and wet places, hot-dip galvanizing or Dacromet coating is used for longer service life. In harsh corrosive areas, we use phosphating, black oxide with anti-rust oil. Lubricant coating can be added if needed. We check coating thickness and adhesion to stop peeling and rust on L Type Bolt.
