Carbon steel galvanized square lock cage nut are common mechanical fasteners, consisting of carbon steel square nuts and spring steel cage bodies.
Structural Features:
The core structure of cage nuts includes a square nut and a spring steel cage encasing it. Elastic lugs are designed on both sides of the cage. When compressed, the cage nuts can be inserted into square mounting holes of equipment racks, etc. After release, the lugs will pop open and lock behind the holes, securing the nuts in place.
Material Selection:
Nuts are generally made of carbon steel (e.g. Q235), featuring favorable strength and toughness. Cage bodies are usually crafted from 65Mn spring steel, with a tensile strength ≥ 1000MPa and hardness ranging HRC 42-48, ensuring reliable elasticity and durability.
Surface Treatment:
To enhance corrosion resistance, galvanization is commonly applied to the nuts, with a coating thickness ≥ 5μm and a salt spray test resistance ≥ 48 hours without red rust. Galvanization also improves the surface finish of the nuts.
Specifications & Dimensions:
Various thread specifications are available, with common ones including M4×0.7, M6×1.0 and M8×1.25. Based on cage height, they are categorized into low-profile cages (Type CNA, height 8.0mm) and high-profile cages (Type CNB, height 8.7-10.4mm), suitable for mounting plates of different thicknesses.
Compared with traditional threaded holes, cage nuts offer distinct benefits. They allow on-site selection of nuts and bolts of different specifications (metric or imperial) after equipment manufacturing. If nuts get damaged due to over-tightening, cage nuts can be replaced easily—whereas damaged threads in pre-tapped holes are difficult to repair. In addition, cage nuts are ideal for materials that are too thin or soft to be threaded.
Widely used in scenarios requiring rack-mounted equipment such as data centers, network cabinets, audio-visual equipment racks, telecommunication devices, industrial and laboratory equipment racks. They are also applicable to industries including electrical enclosures, electrical cabinets and railway engineering.
